S – Sex: Are you male or female? Do you know the risk factors and health predispositions that come with each gender?

  • Female: more prone to osteoarthritis; important to begin calcium supplements in your late 20’s.
  • Male: prostate cancer is on the rise, along with prostatic hypertrophy that leads to urinary incontinence.

T – Total Cholesterol: There is good (HDL) and bad (LDL) cholesterol, along with triglycerides that are important for cellular repair and healing. But, try to keep the total number under 200 mL.

A – Metabolism: the sum total of the chemical reactions that goes on in living cells which allows for reactions by which the body obtains and spends the energy from food. This can be further defined as your basal metabolic rate; the pace at which your metabolism is run. Factors that affect BMR are: age, height, growth, body composition, hormones, caffeine, sleep, stresses, and environmental temperature. Not just one thing affects it. With the right foods and exercise, it can be revved up!

T – Training Regimen: Two words- Specificity of Exercise! It’s simple: if you want big arms, legs, chest, and back muscles— lift big. If you want lean, flexible, and strong arms, waist, legs and hips – do cardio-exercises and lift moderate weight. But, start off slow as not to discourage yourself, then ease into more difficult and challenging workouts as you progress. If you do not challenge your body, forget seeing any improvements.

S – Spiritual Alignment: The spiritual connection between setting your personal goals and walking in the power of God and His will and purpose for your life. Keep God involved in every facet of your life, not just money and all those other things that weigh a person down. Ask Him for the strength to make better decisions about your health.
