My Health Journey
I recently had a good friend and former classmate reach out to me and inquire about my eating habits. He was curious to know what set me o this journey and some of the struggles I may had experienced along the way. When I did, I realized how powerful my own testimony is and wanted to share that with you guys as well. So here it is!
Yes, actually I cut it all out, except for shellfish. The shellfish provides my protein, but honestly, don’t believe the hype that you need meat for protein. Ever observe a rhino, guerrilla or elephant? They are very strong and only eat plants. Matter of fact, some plants yield higher protein stores per pound than meat does.
So here’s why I went the pescatarian/vegan route. I wanted to avoid as many chemicals being pumped into my body as possible. The processing that is associated with meat in our industry is horrendously. From the field to the table, we are being pumped with all sorts of preservatives and steroids. Since going this route in October, I have had no colds whatsoever. At first, I felt sluggish in the weight room, but this was more associated with me cutting out pre-workout drinks from my diet as well. Now, I always start with pull ups and push ups to get my body warmed up and then I’m fine.
So, maybe you’re asking why I don’t eat fish but I do eat shellfish? Simple. Big fish that we eat; salmon, tuna, snapper, etc, all love at depths where they get methyl-mercury, a very dangerous chemical in our oceans. This is at a depth between 100-1000 feet. Shellfish on the other hand, love at depths between 0-100 or below 1000. Therefore, they are not exposed to methyl-mercury.
So, to avoid the processed meats and the exposed meats of the sea. Eggs, if I knew I could get them from my own farm, free of pesticides, I’d eat them in a heartbeat. But since I don’t, I’ve limited myself to eat substitutes.
My book FAT FREE FOR LIFE was a huge victory for me because it was an amalgamation of all the knowledge I had concerning healthy living. From working out, personal experiences, stories clients had shared with me, and my personal spiritual journey. So many people who had a chance to read it are really appreciative of the information and have put a lot of the principles into play with marvelous results. And even though I started my Vegan lifestyle after I wrote the book – some differences being my sources of protein (meat versus plants) – the 13 Principles are still very sound and helpful.
I know I was long-winded but I hope you too find this information valuable. I love to help other people make the right choices when they are changing their diets. Feel free to research anything I posted in this message.
Hope it helps!!
