Newtown Angels Prayer
One of our friend’s of the church, worship leader Eddie James of Eddie James Ministries just shared with us his new song “Newtown Angels”. It is a tribute to the victims of the horrific event that took the lives of innocents, both children and adults. I, being a father of three was shocked when I first heard the news and I shared my prayers and thoughts with the friends and families of the lost, but I did what most of us do when an event such as this happens and doesn’t affect our lives directly: I moved on. Those families will not be able to. It may be 5, 10, 20 years from now, and they will still mourn the loss of their loved ones. Every holiday season, every song, every Christmas carol will remind them of the ridiculous assault on their lives that left them stunned.
I felt somewhat guilty for moving on so quickly after watching the video, forgetting the tragic event that stripped so many of their joy. Is this what really happens in our society today? DO we just move on with our daily activities as the world spins on as long as it doesn’t impact us directly? What does God really think of us? Aren’t we supposed to be our brother’s keeper? Are we not asked to watch over one another, loving them as ourselves? I don’t have an answer to the question, but I do ask another question: what are we called to do about it? I know that we cannot change the world. I know that there is evil that exists, people make mistakes and hurt others and thousands of people die daily due to poor choices of others and complications like starvation and disease wipe out entire populations. But what can we really do to effectively make a difference?
We can’t save the world on our own. What we must do is understand that by ourselves, we are powerless. We do not have the capacity to make the changes necessary to turn the world in another direction. But with God, all things are possible. We have to start to bring back prayer. Prayer in our hoes: to protect the ones we love. Prayers in our schools: the break the chains of bondage, hurt, anger, and disobedience that continuously keep our children frozen in a state of transition, asking questions about their own identity which leaves them confused and mentally weak. Prayer in our jobs: so that others can come to know the purpose of their lives and the love that God has for all His children. Finally, Prayer in our street: allowing God to use us to encourage and inspire others to be more than just a statistic and to take hold of the identity they have in Christ.
I pray for those families and friends of Newtown, more than ever. I pray that somehow they are able to embrace the peace that God has sent through His comforter the Holy Spirit. I pray that He may grant you healing, a supernatural healing that will allow them to find acceptance of God’s perfect t will in all things. I admittedly can only dream of how I would rebound in a situation such as this. But I do tell you this, I only know that beyond a shadow of a doubt, the only way would be through a special touch and visit from God. Only He would be able to restore anything that was lost. Today, please join me in praying for the victims of the Newtown tragedy and hold them in your thoughts as we cross into the New Year. I will be asking God for their restoration and I hope that you will keep them on your mind as well. Let’s not forget what happened, and let’s be determined to pray that nothing like this will ever repeat itself again. I have added the link for the song and video of Eddie James’s tribute. Please click the link and bless those Newton Angels today. God bless you!

Thank you, Dr. Cosby, for sharing this.
My Aunt and her family live in Newtown. Her children had attended Sandy Hook Elementary School (where the shooting occured) a few years ago. They are still trying to return to normalcy. Little by little the media is disappearing. There are fewer microphones and cameras in their faces as they go to the grocery store, church, and school.
Blessings to you.
Thank you. Too many instances of senseless killing are ravaging our world. We must remember those victims of depravity.
This is an informative and beautiful article. I would like to also send light to those families impacted in Newtown. I have written a post in honor of the lives lost. Please read: A Moment for Sandy Hook

Amen! We must not forget all who pass for foolishness.
